Our Grand Anniversary Celebration this past Saturday was a huge success! Sweet Surrender was bursting with activity throughout the afternoon, thanks to all of our faithful–and new–customers. We gave out free samples of our most popular cupcakes (red velvet with cream cheese frosting, chocolate with fresh strawberry frosting and our classic vanilla bean, to name just a few), as well as Mick’s specialty cookies.
Many of our guests who never had the pleasure of tasting our cookies devoured the mini versions of chocolate chip with mini walnuts, oatmeal toffee with milk chocolate and cranberry oatmeal with semi-sweet chocolate. They are simply delicious, and if you missed our event, be sure to try a cookie next time you’re in the cafe for a cupcake.
Now, for the news you’ve been waiting for… the results of Sweet Surrender’s Cupcake Recipe Contest!
We received so many wonderful recipes from both professional bakers and home bakers that it was tough to narrow it down to only two to make and offer samples of at the event. BUT we managed to do it (with our mouths watering the whole time), and chose Stephanie’s “Margarita Cupcake” and Amanda’s “Chocolate Hazelnut Delight” as our semi-finalists.
Our guests devoured the mini cupcakes of each and cast their vote. It was an incredibly close race (even closer than the Bush-Gore election, and yes we did several recounts to be sure!), but the Chocolate Hazelnut Delight took the lead in the end. A special thanks to Stephanie for allowing us to make her delicious cupcake (we’ll certainly be making it for ourselves to enjoy again), and big congrats to Amanda of i am baker for her winning cupcake!!
The Chocolate Hazelnut Delight cupcake will be available at Sweet Surrender beginning July 1, 2010. They are absolutely to-die-for and are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth! As promised, Amanda will receive 10% of the sales profit of the cupcake sold in July, so in addition to savoring a delectable treat, you will also be supporting a home baker.
